Implementation Measures of Graduation Requirements Achievement Evaluation for the Major of Material Science and Engineering
Published:2021-02-17

In order to ensure the quality of our undergraduate talent cultivation and to cultivate management and engineering talents that meet the development needs of social economy and environmental protection industry, the implementation measures (Trial implementation) are hereby formulated with reference to China's engineering education professional accreditation standards to evaluate the degree of completion achievement requirements of the graduates in this major

I. Guiding Principles

Based on the "General Standards of Engineering Education Accreditation" and "Professional Standards of Materials Science and Engineering", the degree of graduation requirements achievement is evaluated according to the professional talent training objectives and the graduation requirements of the majors. The evaluation results will be used in the teaching and continuous improvement process. The evaluation can provide a more scientific and reasonable way for professional talents cultivation, and has a positive role in guiding and promoting the quality of professional talents cultivation.

II. Evaluation objects

Evaluation objects: 12 graduation requirements and 29 index points decomposed article by article with characteristics of Chongqing University's material science and engineering majors.

III. Evaluation Period

The evaluation of the degree of achievement of graduation requirements is conducted once every three years to determine the students' achievement of graduation requirements based on the evaluation value of the 12 graduation requirements of the major, and to revise the training program of the major based on the evaluation results; the evaluation of the degree of achievement of the courses offered by the major is conducted once every year to determine the students' achievement of course objectives, in order to improve the course syllabus and teaching methods based on the evaluation results.

IV. Evaluators

The evaluation team consists of the vice president in charge of undergraduate teaching, directors of departments and key teachers of the major. In the evaluation process, the opinions of students, employers and alumni are also taken into consideration.

V. Evaluation Principle

The achievement of graduation requirements of the courses (including all teaching links and practical teaching) is evaluated based on the course assessment materials; The evaluation results of the achievement of graduation requirements is calucated based on the evaluation results of each course.

VI. Evaluation Basis

The evaluation is mainly based on the assessment materials of each course, including examinations, tests, major assignments, experimental (internship, design) reports, reading reports, etc. In addition, the questionnaire survey results of graduates and employers are also used as supplementary materials.

VII. Evaluation Principles and Methods

For different graduation requirements, 29 graduation requirements index points are evaluated in accordance with the evaluation principles of combining direct and indirect evaluation, qualitative and quantitative evaluation. For the indexes related to the ability to solve complex engineering problems such as engineering knowledge, problem analysis, design/development of solutions and research, direct evaluation and quantitative evaluation methods are used. For the indexes of non-technical factors such as individual and team, communication and lifelong learning, indirect evaluation and qualitative evaluation methods are used.

Before the evaluation, it is necessary to decompose the graduation requirement index points, list the courses supporting each index point, assign corresponding supporting weights, and confirm the rationality of the evaluation basis.

7.1 Weighting assignment of graduation requirement index points supporting courses

After the teachers of the major discuss and report to the college teaching committee for approval, each graduation requirement is decomposed and the courses supporting each index point are listed to complete the matrix of the ability of the curriculum system (teaching activities) to support graduation requirements. According to the correspondence between the graduation requirement index points and related teaching activities, the weight value (target value) of each teaching activity is given, and the weight value of all teaching activities supporting a certain index point is summed up to 1.0.

7.2 Rationality judgement of evaluation basis

Before carrying out the evaluation of the degree of the graduation requirement achievement and course achievement, the college teaching committee and the members of teaching supervision shall confirm the rationality of the evaluation basis (mainly the assessment results of students, including test papers, reports, designs, etc.). The content includes: whether the assessment content completely reflects the assessment of the corresponding graduation requirement index points (difficulty, score, coverage, etc.); whether the form of the assessment is reasonable (in addition to the final examination, whether other forms such as comprehensive reports are used to assess whether students acquire the ability listed in the index points); whether the results are judged strictly (whether there are difficult test paper or extreme high scores), etc.

7.3 Evaluation of the achievement degree of curriculum objectives

According to the support requirements of the graduation requirements index points of the curriculums, the corresponding curriculum objectives are formulated, and the degree of achievement of the curriculum objectives is evaluated. The written examination courses are evaluated by the analysis method of course examination results, while the non-written examination courses such as graduation design (thesis), internship, experiment and course design are evaluated by the analysis method of score table.

Analysis of course examination results

Based on the course assessment results, the course is evaluated on the degree of achievement of the graduation requirement index points.

The evaluation value of the course on the degree of achievement of a graduation requirement index point is calculated as follows.

First, the degree of achievement of the course objectives is calculated.

Then the evaluation value of the graduation requirement index point corresponding to the course objective is calculated.

Evaluation value = target value (weight) × achievement of the corresponding course objective

Score table analysis method

By formulating detailed, specific and measurable evaluation indexes, forming a scoring sheet, evaluate students' performance on the index by combining students' graduation design (thesis), internship report, design report, homework, classroom performance, etc., and give quantitative scores through satisfaction, so as to calculate the achievement degree of the evaluation results.

7.4 Calculation and Evaluation of Degree of Graduation Requirements Achievement

After completing the evaluation of the degree of achievement of course objectives, the actual evaluation values of all course-related objectives supporting a graduation requirement index point are added up (with weights) to obtain the evaluation value of the degree of achievement of the graduation requirement index point; the degree of a graduation requirement achievement is obtained by taking the minimum value of the evaluation value of the degree of achievement of all index points corresponding to a graduation requirement. If the minimum value reaches 0.70 or above, it indicates that the graduation requirement is achieved.

7.5 Supplementary Achievement Evaluation of Non-Technical Factors

For the indicators of non-technical factors such as individual and team, communication and lifelong learning, a indirect method based on questionnaire can be used for supplementary achievement evaluation. Through sampling questionnaire survey of graduates and employers, the achievement of graduation requirements will be evaluated, especially the achievement of non-technical factors such as individual and team, communication and lifelong learning, via designing detailed and specific questions.

VIII. Feedback methods of evaluation results

Based on the evaluation of the achievement of graduation requirements, the teaching committee of the college identifies problems and discusses them through comprehensive analysis of teaching materials and questionnaires of each course, gives feedback and proposes specific measures to promote the continuous improvement of the cultivation program.
