College alumnus Prof.Charles Q.Jia sent a "cloud" message to graduates: diligent in creation, willing to try and practice, having the entire motherland in mind and the whole world in view.
During the period when the Party Committee of the College persisted in carrying out and continuously promoting the construction of "Material Power" project, Prof.Charles Q Jia , a Grade-1977 alumnus of Chongqing University, tenure professor of University of Toronto, president of Canadian Chemical Society and academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering, sent his blessing to Chongqing University graduates of 2020 in the form of "cloud" video.

Thank you, Prof. Charles Q.Jia, for your warm wishes to the graduates.In order to fulfill the historical mission of making China stronger and serving the country in higher education, and fully fulfill the fundamental task of establishing morality and educating people, the College vigorously promotes the construction project of "making China stronger in materials", encourages students to "set great goals, go to the big stage and make great achievements", and actively guides students to the grass-roots level, to the frontline and to the places where the motherland needs them the most. Hope the graduates of the College will keep in mind the entrust, flourish in the most needed places of the motherland, and strive to be the important "material people" in the era’s forefront .
Prof. Charles Q.Jia graduated from Chongqing University in 1982, majoring in metallurgy and steel. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Chongqing University in 1982 and 1984, respectively. He was the first president of The Canadian Alumni Association of Chongqing University.
Prof. Charles Q.Jia won PhD in Canadian McMaster university in 1994, and NSERC postdoctor of University of Toronto in 1994-1996. In 1996 he founded the green technology laboratory at the University of Toronto, Canada. His research field involves in comprehensive utilization of industrial waste, water and air purification technology, new energy materials, environmental protection, climate change and sustainable development. He is currently a tenured professor at the University of Toronto, chairman of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, director of the Chemical Institute of Canada, and director of the Engineering Institute of Canada.
He used to the president of the 29th American Conference on Chemical Engineering and the 68th Canadian Conference on Chemical Engineering in 2018.He has published many SCI papers and books in international academic journals including carbon, environmental science and technology, journal of hazardous materials, industrial and engineering chemistry research, and has obtained a number of patented technologies.
Prof. Charles Q Jia once served as a part-time professor in the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University, and he has trained many outstanding graduates for his Alma Mater. Besides Charles Q Jia, there are also a number of distinguished representatives of alumni from the metallurgy major of Grade 1977 from the College, including Liu Mingzhong, chairman of China First Heavy Machinery Group Corporation, Liu Xiaoling, president of Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and Zhang Guolin, former Party secretary of Southwest University of Political Science and Law.
In 2020, Prof. Charles Q Jia was awarded the title of Academician of Canadian Academy of Engineering. As a tenured professor of the University of Toronto, a world-class university, and the president of the Canadian Chemical Society, Prof. Charles Q Jia has an important voice in the field of chemical materials application in the world, also an international material chemistry expert from Chongqing University. Prof. Charles Q Jia is the pride of Chongqing University.
