Teaching evaluation system in College of Material Science and Engineering

Strengthening the teaching management of the college is a guarantee to promote the construction of teaching and learning style and improve the quality of teaching. According to the spirit of the university's annual evaluation of secondary units, in order to strengthen the teaching management of the college in a more scientific and standardized way, change the situation of drawing conclusions only based on subjective impressions, and make the evaluation of the teaching work of the college as objective and fair as possible, the evaluation system of the undergraduate teaching of College of Materials Science and Engineering is hereby formulated.

1 Purpose and significance of the evaluation of the teaching work status of the college

Through the assessment of the college’s teaching work status, we can accurately obtain the feedback information of the first-hand teaching work, effectively implement the quality management and macro-monitoring of the teaching process according to the requirements of the annual undergraduate teaching work status evaluation index system of the university, promote the gradual standardization and scientization of the college’s teaching operation and teaching management, and constantly promote the college’s teaching management level.

2 Organizational structure and tasks of evaluation

The college sets up a leading group for self-evaluation of teaching work status, which is in the charge of the vice president responsible for teaching. The members consist of the vice dean of each departments in charge of teaching, and relevant personnel. The main task of the group is to conduct self-evaluation of the college's teaching work status according to the evaluation indicators, and submit the self-evaluation summary report and relevant supporting materials.

3 Evaluation Methods and Implementation

3.1 Teachers' evaluation and self-evaluation

Teachers' evaluation is the responsibility of lecturers to evaluate students' learning condition and students' learning style in classroom teaching, etc. Teachers' self-evaluation is a summary of their own teaching activities. Lecturers should evaluate the learning style and teaching achievements of their own classes on the campus network every semester, evaluate the teaching effect among peers. Finally the teaching department will summarize the situation and report to the whole university.

3.2 Students' evaluation of teaching

Students' evaluation of teaching is an effective way to evaluate, supervise and promote teachers' teaching situation. Each semester, the teaching department of the university organizes and arranges students to independently evaluate the classroom teaching quality of all teachers on the campus network. Then the teaching department collect students' evaluation results for comprehensive analysis and feed back to colleges, relevant departments and corresponding teachers.

3.3 Teaching Supervisor's Evaluation of Teaching and Learning

There are other relevant regulations.

3.4 The annual evaluation of college’s undergraduate teaching work status is conducted in two stages.

Phase I: The college carries out serious self-evaluation according to the evaluation indexes of the university, so as to form a self-evaluation summary report and relevant supporting materials.

Phase II: The Academic Affairs Office of the university organizes relevant personnel to verify the self-evaluation report and materials of each college, according to the evaluation indexes, and work out the index results. The vice president of college in charge of teaching will attend the annual meeting of the university to evaluate the teaching work and make a self-evaluation summary report on behalf of the college, and accept the evaluation results of the teaching work status of the college by the university.

4 Evaluation index system and quantification method

The annual evaluation of teaching work status of the college is conducted from teaching reform, teaching construction, practical teaching, teaching management, teaching quantity, teaching research, etc. The evaluation index system is divided into 14 indexes. The evaluation adopts the quantitative method of ranking and quantifies the scores according to the indexes, with 50 points for each index of (1) and (2) , and the full score of 100 points.

This system shall be interpreted by the Academic Affairs Office.
