On September 10, 2020, Clarivate (formerly Thomson Reuters) has published the ESI statistics results from January 1, 2010 to June 30, 2020 (ten years and six months), and the ESI ranking of the discipline of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University has entered the top 0.1% for the first time, which is the second discipline in Chongqing University to enter the global top 0.1%. This breakthrough reflects the continuous improvement and rapid development of the discipline of Materials Science and Engineering in Chongqing University, which becomes another new disciplinary peak on the disciplinary plateau in Chongqing University.
The published ESI data shows that there are 961 institutions on the list of global top 0.1% in the discipline of Materials Science and Engineering, and our university ranks 92nd, which increased 182 as compared with the ranking in 2015.
ESI (Essential Science Indicators) is an econometric analysis database based on more than 10,000 academic journals' records collected by Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI), which has become one of the most important evaluation tools for universities, academic institutions and countries/regions to evaluate their international academic level and influence.
ESI classifies all disciplines into 22 subject areas. From the perspective of citation analysis, statistics and comparison of SCI and SSCI papers and their citations from all universities and institutions in the past 10 years, ESI data is updated every two months, and only top 1% discipline according to the total number of citations of papers can enter the ESI ranking list. ESI global top 0.1% means the top 10% on the top 1% list, representing the top level of research worldwide.
