The College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University successfully held the 2021 Academic Cloud Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students

From July 12th to 13th, 2021, the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University (hereinafter referred to as the College of Materials) held the "2021 Academic Cloud Summer Camp for Outstanding College Students of the College of Materials". Jingfeng Wang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College, XiaoxuHuang , Dean, Zejun Chen, Deputy Dean, Xianhua Chen, Deputy Dean, Department Head and other teachers were present. The summer camp was held online. The College carefully arranged subject introductions, expert reports, interviews, and quizzes. It provided nearly 200 students from universities across the country with opportunities and platforms to have a deep understanding of Chongqing University and become familiar with the College of Materials Science and Engineering.

On July 12, the opening ceremony started on time, and Zejun Chen gave a brief introduction to the participating teachers and students.

Jingfeng Wang delivered an opening speech on behalf of the college and extended a warm welcome to the students from all over the country who participated in the summer camp. He said that this year is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 86th anniversary of the founding of the College of Materials Science and Technology. Adhering to the College-running tenet of Chongqing University of "researching academics, cultivating talents, inspiring the country, and guiding the society", the College of Materials seized the opportunities of the times, determined to reform, forged ahead, and vigorously promoted the training of talents, scientific research, discipline development, and internationalization of the College. He hoped that students can deepen their understanding of materials, metallurgy and other disciplines through this cloud summer camp. He also hoped that through academic seminars, everyone will understand the bottleneck technology problems in the field of materials, and strive to break through the advanced materials and advanced technologies that are controlled by others, and build a material power and strengthen our country.

After the opening ceremony, each major held an academic report. Xiaoqin Peng, Xuewei Lu, Xiaoxu Huang, Jie Zhou, and Qian Li represent their respective research directions with "National Major Construction Projects and Building Materials Scientific Research", "Research Status and Future of Green and Efficient Metallurgical Technology", "Multidimensional and Multiscale Characterization of Microstructures", " The development of advanced material forming technology" and "The design and application of advanced metal materials based on the materials genome method" were reported. Tianlin Huang led the campers to visit the electron microscope center online.

On July 13, the College organized an online summer camp and interview for exempting students grouped by different professional direction.

At the closing ceremony, Xiaoxu Huang made a concluding speech. He reviewed the summer camp and said that material was a key factor related to the country's high-end manufacturing and related safety, and the focus of international strategic competition. After the efforts of generations of materials people, our country had achieved good achievements in the field of materials science, and gradually caught up with others and was striving to take the lead. Under the background of the era, our College focused on the cultivation of students' ability and relied on a high-level scientific and technological platform to cultivate high-quality innovative talents in materials majors who could adapt to and control the future. In recent years, the College's scientific research achievements had been remarkable. Chongqing University's material science ESI ranking had entered the top one thousandth in the world, and its research on magnesium alloys was internationally leading. Teachers of the College had published many high-level academic papers in the main journals and sub-journals of Science and Nature; the SCI journal Journal of Magnesium and Alloys sponsored by them was successfully selected as one of the first national leading journals. The construction of the world-class electron microscope center had laid a solid foundation for the scientific research and disciplinary development of the College. The construction of the super-transient large scientific device to be launched would bring a rare historical opportunity to the development of the college. He hoped that the students could take this summer camp activity as a new starting point for their academic career, work hard and strive hard, and closely link the realization of life value with the development of the country, and become newcomers of the era who are worthy of the great responsibility of national rejuvenation.
