College of Materials Science and Engineering held a seminar with graduate representatives on talent training

At 10 o 'clock on June 13, 2021, the Graduate Representative Symposium of Material Science and Engineering major (Material Processing direction) was held in No.1240 Of Huxi No.1 Education Building. The symposium was presided over by Prof Zejun Chen, deputy dean of College of Materials Science and Engineering. Participants included the class of 2007 graduate representatives, the deputy dean of the Processing Department, and faculty representatives.

First of all, deputy dean Zejun Chen expressed his gratitude to all the graduate representatives for attending the symposium, and expressed his satisfaction and pride for the good development achieved by all the graduates. Then he introduced the development of the School in recent years, the background of Engineering Education Certification and the reform measures of the school in personnel training. He pointed out that the school has made remarkable achievements in scientific research achievements, high-level training for teachers and talents, and Materials Science and Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering majors had successfully passed the Engineering Education Certification and been selected as the national first-class undergraduate program construction site.

Afterwards, the graduate representatives had in-depth exchanges and discussions on the rationality of the training objectives of our School, the achievement of the training objectives, the deficiencies in the process of talents training, and the requirements of the future development of society on the graduates' ability. The graduate representatives expressed that the training goal of the major meets the national needs of the field development and the current social development needs. They hoped that the college will strengthen the training of students' practical ability, communication and expression ability, and add courses such as advanced materials and manufacturing, CAD drawing and big data to better meet the needs of future development. Meanwhile, the graduate representatives highly appreciated the achievements made by the college and School in various aspects, and felt very happy that the School invited them to participate in this forum. They thanked the School for providing the opportunity to have in-depth exchanges with teachers and students, and hoped that the school could continue to provide such opportunities in the future.

At last, Xinjian Yuan, deputy director of the Materials Processing Department, introduced the detailed adjustments of the Processing direction in the revised training program. In terms of curriculum setting, the cohesion of courses would be strengthened and elective courses would be enriched to provide students with more choices. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to all the graduate representatives for their support and help in the talents training of the School. He said that he would seriously study and summarize the opinions and suggestions of all representatives, implement them into the new round of training plan revision, and constantly improve the quality of talent training.
