From October 9 to 14, 2021, the 10th "Leica Cup" National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students was held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Three 2018 undergraduates, Wenlong Xie, Yu Qi and Ying Tao, majoring in Materials Science and Engineering, formed a team to participate in the competition.

The competition attracted 1,109 contestants from 370 universities across China.  The competition was divided into two stages, the semi-final and the final. After intense playoff race, a total of 375 contestants entered the final. As one of the 48 teams of which all the contestants entered the final, team from Chongqing University maintain a high level and stability in the final and ultimately achieved 1 individual first prize (Wenlong Xie), 2 individual second prize (Ying Tao, Yu Qi) and a group second prize (Chongqing University). As one of the sponsors of the competition, Mr. Tianmo Liu of our University made a speech at the closing ceremony, and was awarded the Special Medal of Honor for National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students for his outstanding contribution to the competition.

The National Metallographic Skills Competition for College Students is sponsored by the Teaching Steering Committee of Materials in Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, and was jointly initiated by Tsinghua University, Beijing University of Science and Technology, Chongqing University, Southeast University, etc. It is a major competition recognized to the National Disciplinary Competition List for College Students by the Ministry of Education.
