College of Materials Science and Engineering held Laboratory Safety Emergency Drill Activities in Chongqing University Laboratory Safety Culture Month

On December 21, 2021, in order to enhance the safety awareness of teachers and students and improve the emergency handling ability, and strengthen the self-rescue and rescue skills to deal with all kinds of laboratory safety accidents. a laboratory safety emergency drill was held in building Materials Experimental Building, Zone B of Chongqing University. This activity was an important activity of Chongqing University Laboratory Safety Culture Month. More than 350 teachers and students from the School of Materials Science and Engineering and related colleges participated in the activity. This activity was sponsored by Laboratory and Equipment Management Office of Chongqing University and undertaken by College of Materials Science and Engineering. Director Yunhuai Zhang of the Laboratory and Equipment Management Office, Deputy Director Changwu Yuan, Director Bing He of the Political Stability Office of the Security Department, Secretary of the Party Committee Jingfeng Wang of School of Materials Science and Engineering and Deputy Dean Zejun Chen and other leaders attended the launch ceremony of the security exercise held by Zejun Chen.


Yunhuai Zhang pointed out that the Laboratory Safety Culture Month is an important measure to strengthen the construction of laboratory safety culture and continue to promote the of cultural education. The theme of Safety Month is to enhance experimental safety and jointly bulid up safety in Chongqing University. He emphasized the importance of laboratory safety to teachers and students, reviewed the causes of severe safety accidents in domestic universities, pointed out the importance of strengthening the study and exercise of laboratory safety knowledge, hoped that students could treat the exercise seriously, and wished this exercise activity a complete success.

   

Jingfeng Wang expressed his gratitude to the Laboratory and Equipment Management Office for its support and trust to School of Materials Science and Engineering, the Security Office for its strong support to carry out the emergency drill, and Shanghai Siebel Industrial Technology Co., Ltd. for providing relevant equipment and professional guidance for the emergency drill. He said that teachers and students of the school should pay more attention to laboratory safety, and hoped that students could make use of the exercise to strengthen the study of laboratory safety knowledge, and effectively improve safety knowledge and accident emergency handling ability.

After the opening ceremony, the laboratory safety emergency drill officially began. This drill project is carefully designed according to the characteristics of safety risk sources and potent safety accidents in the main laboratory of School of Materials Science and Engineering.

This activity mainly includes correctly dress up personal protective equipment (PPE), emergency drill of dangerous chemical leakage prevention and dispose, emergency drill of flammable toxic laboratory gas leakage dispose, emergency drill of flammable and explosive laboratory gas leakage dispose, emergency drills of response to electric shock, and the exercise of six laboratory staff professional emergency drill program.

The drill program is designed by Shanghai Siebel Industrial Technology Co., LTD., a professional company specializing in the development and production of safe storage products, leakage prevention and control products and special protective equipment. In the course of safety emergency drill, relevant professional and technical personnel carry out professional teaching and guidance throughout the whole process. The scheduled 6 safety emergency drill projects lasted one day, and the organizer took various measures to improve the enthusiasm of teachers and students to participate in the emergency drill. The teachers and students were enthusiastic, and the activities took various forms. With the cooperation and assistance of professionals, laboratory teachers and volunteers, the safety emergency drill activity was a complete success.

After the activity, teachers and students participated in the security drill expressed that, through the laboratory safety emergency exercise activities, quick response ability, emergency dispose ability, emergency rescue ability and cooperative engagement capability of teachers and students was greatly improved, the ability to fight major disasters and accidents was promoted, the ability to effectively organize the rapid response, operate efficiently, take the tense situation calmly and minimize the accident harm when sudden relevant laboratory accidents happen. The activity was well received by the teachers and students of the participating colleges, and the study and exercise achieved remarkable results.
