Published:2021-12-15

On December 3, 2021, the High Technology Research Center in Ministry of Science and Technology organized an online meeting to evaluate the comprehensive performance of the project titled “Key technologies for processing large-size and high-performance wrought magnesium materials”, which belongs to the “Thirteenth Five-Year” National Key Research and Development Program of China. The project leader Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and professor at Chongqing University), the person in charge of five subjects under the project, and experts from Chongqing University, Institute of metals research at Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd., Beijing University of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Science &Technology Beijing, Chongqing Chang'an Automobile Co., Ltd. and other participating units attended the meeting.

In the meeting, academician Fusheng Pan on behalf of the project team made a self-assessment report to the expert group about the comprehensive performance of the project by involving the project background, contents and objectives, completion of research tasks and targets, main achievements and economic benefits, fund usage and organizational management and so on.

The expert group listened carefully to the project report, viewed the video about the demonstration application of the project results, reviewed the project documents and materials, asked relevant questions, and ultimately evaluated and scored the overall completion of the project. The experts unanimously agreed that the project fully completed the research work specified in the assignment and achieved the expected objectives and assessment requirements. The experts highly affirmed the remarkable achievements of the project in the field of strengthening-toughening theory and common key technologies for magnesium alloys, and consented to the project through comprehensive performance evaluation.

The project of National Key Research and Development Program titled “Key technologies for processing large-size and high-performance wrought magnesium materials” was approved in July 2016, led by Chongqing University, and received the national special fund of 34 million RMB. The project orients towards the “Four Aspects”, aims at the key technical bottlenecks and fundamental theoretical problems in the production and application of large-size wrought magnesium alloy products, and carried out the research including the synergistic regulation mechanism of strengthening and toughening, alloying design for new type of magnesium alloys, processing of large-size ingot and wrought magnesium alloys, and reduction of residual stress and surface protection. The project established independent production capacity, and realized the demonstration application of magnesium alloy products in transportation, aerospace, weaponry, electronic information and other fields. The expert group deems that the research achievements make important contributions to the major national needs in such as aerospace, energy conservation and emission reduction, and are of great value to the national economic construction such as vehicle light-weighting and the improvement of manufacturing competitiveness. The project has formulated a set of international standards and won two international awards, resulted in important impact on the international arena and significantly enhanced the international discourse power of our country in magnesium industry.
