College of Materials Science and Engineering at Chongqing University was founded in 1935. It has two first-level disciplines which are Materials Science and Engineering, and Metallurgical Engineering, respectively. It also has the National Key Discipline in Materials Science, and National Key Discipline (Nurture) on Iron and Steel Metallurgy. Both the major in Materials Science and Engineering and major in Metallurgical Engineering are two national first-class undergraduate majors, and both of which have passed China Engineering Education Certification. It has a high-level faculty team led by an academician. College of Materials Science and Engineering in Chongqing University has a strong scientific research ability, it owns 18 national and provincial scientific research platforms, including the National Engineering and Technology Research Center for Magnesium Alloy Materials, and the National Demonstration Center for Engineering Materials Experimental Teaching. It has a international scientific research reputation, many research results have been published in top-level journals, including Science and Nature. Now the ESI subject ranking of Material Science discipline is within the top 0.1%.
The University of British Columbia (UBC) locates in Vancouver, Canada, which is known as the world's most livable city. UBC is a multidisciplinary research University, which is one of the world's top 50 university, and one of the top 20 public universities. In the past 100 years, the university has made remarkable achievements and has cultivated numerous excellent students. There are three Canadian Prime Ministers, eight Nobel Prize winners, and 273 Royal Society of Canada fellows from its Faculties and Alumini. The Department of Materials Engineering at UBC (http://www.mtrl.ubc.ca) was founded in 1915. After 100 years of development, its scientific research and teaching cover traditional materials, new alloy design, advanced composite materials, electronic materials, biomedical materials, as well as new energy materials, environmental materials and resource regeneration and other emerging areas. The Department of Materials Engineering at UBC enjoy an international reputation in the materials science field.
The “2+2” undergraduate program on materials engineering between Chongqing University and University of British Columbia officially began to recruit students in 2015. Students in this class have the opportunity to complete their undergraduate studies at UBC in the third and fourth year during their four-year undergraduate study. In 2019, the first 8 students graduated from this program with excellent academic performance, and have enrolled in overseas famous universities (including QS top 50) to pursue postgraduate studies, such as ETH Zurich, Imperial College London, Cornell University and University of Pennsylvania.
1. Program objectives
The goal of this program is to deepen the personalized education, provide students with diverse learning opportunities, cultivate internationalized students. Meanwhile, the students can enjoy multi-national culture, improve ability of originality and international awareness, and become graduates with international vision and ability to participate in international competition.
2. Program mode
v "2+2" mode
In the first 2 years, students will study at Chongqing University. After they meet the requirements of UBC in English and GPA, they can study at UBC in the next 2 years. Upon completion of their studies, they will receive the graduation certificate and bachelor's degree certificate from Chongqing University and bachelor's degree certificate from UBC.
Basic requirements for admission to UBC: IELTS (≥6.5) or TOEFL (≥90), the average score of courses in Chongqing University reaches 80 or above.
v Course system
The UBC class will adopt the curriculum of UBC, and most courses will adopt the syllabus of UBC. In order to improve students' English level, the teaching language gradually transfers from Chinese & English teaching in the first year to English teaching in the second year.
3. Characteristics of the “2+2” program
Aiming for international vision, cross-cultural awareness and strong sense of social responsibility; gaining overseas experience and degree conducive for further study; obtaining one bachelor degree from a famous Chinese University and one bachelor degree from a top oversea University within 4 years study.
4. Tuition fees and scholarships
Tuition fees during the study in Chongqing University will be implemented according to the current undergraduate tuition standards of Chongqing University.
During the study at UBC, the tuition fees is about C $50,000 / year (C $1,400 / credit) according to the UBC International Student rates.
Students have the opportunity to win the scholarship during the study.
5. Application
1) Numbers. 30 students will be selected from the science and engineering freshmen of Chongqing University in 2020.
2) Selection criterion: the students' learning ability (college entrance examination results) and English ability will be assessed.
3) Application method. Applicants need to apply online and confirm on-site.
A. Online application. In the middle of August 2020, please log on to the official website of College of Materials Science and Engineering at Chongqing University (http://cmse.cqu.edu.cn), download the application form from the Application Guide for the CQU-UBC “2+2” program in materials engineering under the notice board, and submit the application form to the email address of school administration: cljw@cqu.edu.cn.
B. Confirm the application on-site. Submit the application form and a copy of the college entrance examination results at the reception center of College of Materials Science and Engineering at the day of enrollment.
C. Students who are not applied online can also do on-site application and confirmation at the day of enrollment.
D. Decision. After the registration of the 2020 freshmen.
